J.P. Reese- Fort Lauderdale Wrestling Club Head Coach
J.P. Reese currently is an assistant coach for the Cardinal Gibbons High School wrestling team and recently completed his first season with the squad. Cardinal Gibbons placed second in the 2009 1A FHSAA State Championships lead by four state finalists and two state champions.
Prior to this season, J.P. spent one season as an assistant coach for the South Broward High School wrestling team. South Broward placed sixth in the 2008 3A FHSAA State Championships lead by two state champions and two NHSCA High School All-Americans. The South Broward wrestling team experienced a large improvement in just the one season with J.P. in the room. South Broward went from the cellar in 3A (85th place in 2007) to a top caliber team in the state in 2008.
J.P. was the director and coach of the Parkland Destructors Wrestling Club during his tenure with the Stoneman Douglas wrestling team from 2004 until 2007.
Previous to coaching, J.P. was a Division I standout for the University of Missouri wrestling team. He was a four-year starter along with being a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier. J.P. was ranked top-ten at the 141 lbs. weight class while competing for Missouri. His team was ranked as high as second in the country during his senior season on the squad. He set the school record for most pins in a career in 2004 (47) up until 2008 US Olympian Ben Askren broke the record in 2007. J.P. graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management in 2004.
J.P. attended Rochester Adams High School in Michigan and was twice named All-State for his squad (1998 and 1999) and amassed a 57-1 record his senior season. His team was Division I State Champions in 1998, third in 1997, and second in 1999.
J.P. has lived in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea for the past three years and works as a Financial Advisor for Edward Jones.
Sean Zamora- Fort Lauderdale Wrestling Club Assistant Coach
Sean currently serves as an assistant coach for the Cardinal Gibbons wrestling team. He graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in 2001 and has been involved with the Fort Lauderdale Wrestling Club since he was in middle school.
Sean wrestled for Cardinal Gibbons all four years and earned a District Championship and was a two-time Regional Championships qualifier. Sean was a multi-sport athlete as a member of the football team all four years and the volleyball team for two years.
Sean wrestled in the Florida State University and University of Florida wrestling clubs while attending school. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in December of 2007.
Sean lives in Fort Lauderdale and is currently a geometry teacher at Cardinal Gibbons High School. He looks forward to continuing the success of the Fort Lauderdale Wrestling Club with Coach J.P. Reese.
Frank Pettineo- Fort Lauderdale Wrestling Club Director
Frank Pettineo is the head wrestling coach for Cardinal Gibbons High School and has commanded the squad since 1988. During his tenure he has coached three FHSAA Florida State Championship teams (2002, 2003, and 2005) along with fifteen state champions. His son, Frank Pettineo Jr. was an undefeated 2009 FHSAA Florida State Champion and was named Broward County Wrestler of the Year.
Frank built the Cardinal Gibbons wrestling team from an unknown to one of the premier wrestling teams in the state of Florida and the most recognized team in Broward County. Thirteen times he has been awarded the Broward County Coach of the Year (Miami Herald) and two times Florida Coach of the Year (2002 and 2003). In 2009, he was inducted into the Cardinal Gibbons Athletic Hall of Fame.
Frank founded the Fort Lauderdale Wrestling Club in 1985 and currently serves as the director. He has lived in Fort Lauderdale for the past forty years with his family.
